Women in Wine
We will be featuring three wines from highly regarded and established women winemakers.
These are fearless wine leaders that are inspiring the next generation of grape stompers.
Martin Ray
2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Russian River Valley, California, United States
Lesie Renaud, Principal Winemaker
Lesie Mead Renaud’s path to becoming a winemaker is far from boring. A diving instructor in Hawaii after High School, she began hooting for spotted owls in the forest service after earning a BA in Natural Resources. Her career took a sharp turn when she realized her interests aligned with the balance of the wine industry; a combination of science and art. She gained experience working in wineries all over Northern California, including Sonoma County, Napa Valley, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Lesie ultimately seeks terroir driven wines that are vibrant and always balanced.
Illahe
2021 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon, United States
Bethany Ford, Owner & Vice President
Bethany fell in love with Pinot Noir in the Santa Ynez valley while she was earning a BFA in art in Los Angeles. Inspired by the craft and process of making wine, and having always wanted to live in the Northwest, she moved to Oregon in 2005. Bethany joined the team at Illahe vineyards in 2009 after gaining experience with some of Oregon’s top wineries. Her sales experience drove Illahe’s success in transitioning from a winery with a small distribution radius to achieving recognition in 35 markets internationally. At harvest, you can find her in work boots doing lab work, punch downs, and fruit sorting. She often cooks lunch for the entire crew as well. Bethany has a WSET level 2 award for Wine and Spirits. She is also a mom of two adorable little ones, Beckett and Miette, and is Brad Fords wife.
Stag’s Hollow
2019 Dolcetto, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada
Keira LeFranc, Wine Maker & Director of Operations
Keira grew up in the Okanagan Valley and actually got her start in the wine industry in our tasting room as her summer job in 2012. Showing a keen interest in the cellar side of things, after completing a science degree, she jumped at the opportunity to join our vintage team on the crush pad in 2013, which really solidified her passion for the industry. Following that first harvest, Keira spent 2 years training and working as a Sommelier in Australia, completing her WSET 3 and CMS Certified Sommelier. Missing getting her hands dirty in the cellar, she returned to the Okanagan to join our vintage crew again in 2015, before returning to the Southern Hemisphere to complete a Postgraduate Diploma of Wine Science in New Zealand, and an overseas harvest. She made her final move back to the Okanagan shortly thereafter, and joined our team permanently. Keira took over as Winemaker at Stag’s Hollow in July 2018.
